Saweetie Defends Sampling HipHop Classics

Bay Area raptress Saweetie first came on the screen after her hit song “Icy Girl” debuted. It was a perfect vibe for the ladies and it sampled Khia’s “My Neck, My Back”.

Now several people are calling her out for her continuous use of sampled tracks including Blow the whistle. In a recent interview, she spoke about the feedback she has received,

“What’s crazy is that the old heads show me love. It’s like the young people who be like ‘Oh my gosh, here she goes with another sample’. But sampling is my specialty. Hip Hop is built off of sampling so when they come for me I’m just like y’all just picking on me so whatever”, she stated.

“What’s crazy about this is I was doing covers because that was just the social media thing to do. So it’s like I can’t help what the people like”, she continued.
