Actor Bernard Hill, known for his roles in Titanic and Lord of the Rings, died aged 79 on Sunday his agent has confirmed.
Hill was famously known for playing Captain Edward Smith in the film Titanic, released in 1997 starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
He also played the role of Theoden, King of Rohan, in the Lord of the Rings triology directed by Sir Peter Jackson, starting his role in the second film, back in 2002 and then went back for the third and final film in the triology, The Return of the King, which won 11 Oscars.
Many fans and fellow celebrities and co stars took to social media to share their sadness, in particular actress Barbara Dickson who worked with him during a musical paid tribute calling him a ”marvelous actor” and how it was a ”privilege to cross paths” with the star.
