White Voice Over Actors Step Down From Voicing Black Characters

This past week, animated voice-over actors featured on Family Guy, The Simpsons, Big Mouths, and many others have made the decision to step down from their roles.  Mike Henry, who has voiced the character of Cleveland Brown for two decades stated in a long tweet how much he appreciated playing the character but He stated that “I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role.”

This also took place with actors Kristen Bell, the voice actor for Molly on Apple tv’s Central Park.

As well as for Jenny Slate, the voice actor for Missy on Netflix’s Big Mouth.

All that is happening in the world with the police riots and the BLM (Black Lives Matter) movement this seems to be a good move for television companies to give the chance to hire more blacks in the industry. The lack of diversity is something that the entertainment media have been shifting towards for the good amount of the last 10 years and this will finally open the door to that. So be prepared to see more animated/cartoon shows do this and emphasize the change that the BLM movement is trying to implement.
