Recently the people of Utah have discovered a new colour of snow, with a red and purple tinge amongst the usual white blankets.
The discovery, nicknamed ‘’watermelon snow’’, is something that occurs across different mountains all over the world.
The colour comes from green algae strangely enough, where it blooms and then thrives in cold and snowy environments.; other colours can vary between red, purple, green, and even orange.
The bloom normally indicates the algae’s reproductive stage which makes its natural colour darker.
Luckily enough, there have been no health concerns regarding the water quality and if anyone was to come in to contact with the ‘’watermelon snow’’.
As Utah has faced a record number of snow across different locations, it seems as though this new wonder they have just discovered, will be around for a while.
