“I want to retire, I don’t want to do this anymore,” said Teyana Taylor on her Instagram live. The mother of two took to her social media platforms to announce her frustration within the music industry.
Taylor has been signed to Def Jam for over 10 years. Since then, she has released 3 albums and 2 mixtapes. She expressed in her live that she feels undervalued and unappreciated. “I’m putting in 110% and my label is reciprocating 10% of that. I constantly feel alone,” she stated. On the outside, things may have looked good to her fans, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. “I asked Def Jam to drop me on more than 10 different occasions,” she claimed.
After her announcement went viral, several celebrities and fans came forward to express their love for Taylor’s talent. Cardi B took to Twitter to say, “If you know me then you know Teyana Taylor’s album is my favorite of 2020… I hate that she feels how she feels.” Rapper, The Game, uploaded a very lengthy Instagram post to reassure Teyana of her talents.
Just 2 days ago, Taylor posted her Spotify streams which reached surpassed 160 million in over 90 countries. Though some thought this would be her way of continuing her career, her caption expressed otherwise. She wrote, “I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that I can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put in was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world!”
Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of artists being disappointed in their labels, and it sure won’t be the last. Let’s just hope all is well for Teyana.
