The unexpected death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant in January devastated the world. In an unpleasant helicopter crash that happened on January 26, eight lives were taken way too soon. In hopes to allow his honor to reign on, Orange County has decided to give him his own day.

Bryant’s playing numbers were 8 and 24, which makes August 24 the perfect date. A voting process took place and was agreed upon with flying colors. Being that his birthday is August 23, the following day will be even more significant.
