Aretha Franklin’s upcoming biopic “Respect”starring Jennifer Hudson is set to hit theaters October 9, 2020 and her youngest son Kecalf Franklin is outraged and wants the film to be boycotted.
In a Facebook rant he blasted the film saying, “Once again..the Franklin family (does not) support the movie that is in production!!! Nor do we support the book ‘The Queen Next Door’!! Neither entity felt the need to contact the (core) family about anything. How can you make movie about a person and not talk to the persons sons or grandchildren about important information? How can you put a persons family (image) in a book and not ask permission? If you are a ‘real’ fan of my mothers… please do not support this. Ask yourself…would you want this done to you?”, wrote the 49 year old.
Kecalf Franklin is involved in an ongoing estate battle between Aretha Franklin’s niece, Sabrina Owens. According to Franklin’s longtime attorney, David Bennett, Kecalf is attempting to “become the personal representative of the estate”.
