It has been rumoured Kelly Rowland has ‘blocked’ rapper Nelly from performing their 2002 hit song ‘Dilemma’ at Donald Trump’s inauguration ball.
A source close to the pair has commented on how the former Destiny’s Child star had no acknowledgement of Nelly’s decision to perform, especially their joint song. It has been known that Rowland and her team will issue a ‘take down notice’ if he goes against her wishes.
Dilemma was in a long term running back when it was released in 2002, with Nelly and Rowland both winning a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung performance, as well as being nominated for Record of the Year.
In 2020, the music video for the song became the one of the first rap music videos to reach a billion views on YouTube.
Nelly has been involved in backlash since his decision to perform, and fans have started to become more worried for his wife, Ashanti.
The pair first started dated back in 2003 for ten years, reuniting in 2023 and getting married the end of that year.
Fans of Ashanti have already started airing their opinions of her husbands decision to perform at the inauguration ball with one of her loyal fans on Instagram (known as @AshantiNews) posted a statement which read
‘‘In light of recent news about Nelly and the decisions he has made… I can no longer run @AshantiNews or support The Haynes in the direction they are going…It’s beyond disappointing.
For over 20 years it’s been amazing connecting Ashanti fans around the world and sharing news, videos and photos. I will miss a lot of you! Take care.”
Nelly appears to be unbothered by the hate he has received as he is set to earn more money off this one off performance than he has for recent years for his records.
However, he has also spoke out and said he is NOT doing it for the cash, but because ”it’s an honour” which of course, fueled a fire. He went on to say ”You know the thing about Donald Trump is that I liked Donald Trump, I did, I just don’t like Donald Trump as my president”
