Weight Watchers has faced a decline in memberships as well as mass amounts of debts over the years, despite once being known as the ultimate weight loss brand for over six decades helping millions of people who needed help losing weight.
The challenges that faced the major weight loss company didn’t just go as far as the superficial side of things, but as deep as making their place back in the health industry.
Sima Sistani, CEO of WeightWatchers since 2022, has had to face these challenges by researching into user engagement and said how ”A company with 60 years or heritage and trust could do that better anybody” when it comes to seeking out the cultural change within the community of the weight loss world.
Upon starting the research and putting the actions they had planned into motion, it become one of WeightWatchers’ most important movements within the history of the company; the introduction to a telehealth company that specialised in weight loss medications, Sequence.
The decline in members continued to fall, with long term members also having their concerns regarding the medication, after using traditional methods of weight loss for so long.
Despite a lot of convincing, and the initial worries after what seemed like a downwards slope of losing both members and profit, Sistani pushed for the pharmaceutical side of the company, combining the core of WeightWatchers’ is and and has always been, with a holistic health tech platform approach; the approach will focus on the traditional diet plans but also offer medication management for members health and wellness needs.
The company has received disappointing (and in some eyes, not suprising) results, with the decline in revnue and stock records being some of the lowest it has ever been.
The reinvention of WeightWatchers will ultimately continue to come with it’s lows but with the weight loss market set to reach billions of dollars by 2026, Sistani is eager to strive forward with this new concept for the company.
The traditional take that the company has always taken is set to change, will it last long?
