On November 7th, 2020, it was announced that Joe Biden had become the presidential-elect, beating Donald Trump by over 4 million votes. Many celebrities and influencers shared their excitement and relief on social media. Many celebrities who supported Biden, and Kamala Harris, expressed their feelings on their large platforms. Harris was not only the first female to become Vice President of the United States, but the Asian-American woman and Black woman, as well. 

Chrissy Teigan and John Legend, avid supporters of Biden, demonstrated their excitement for his win by attending a celebration for the results of the election. Teigan mentioned on Twitter, “Everyone is so beautiful and so happy I’m crying.” In another Tweet, she revealed her relief that Joe Biden had won she election when she revealed, “My god it feels like I just took off a weighted blanket, unhooked my bra and taken out my extensions all at once.”


Mindy Kaling also went to Twitter to express how excited she was that the new Vice President would be a woman of color. Kaling mentioned how she was excited to have a Vice President who resembled both her and her daughter when she said, “Crying and holding my daughter, “look baby, she looks like us.” Excited to have a role model for her daughter to look up to, Kaling also mentioned, “Madam Vice President looks amazing,” on Twitter.


Lin Manuel Miranda also expressed his relief for the new presidential candidate with a fitting Hamilton GIF. On Twitter, he said simply, “YES.” to accompany his GIF that read, “We won. We won. We won.”

Lizzo also shared her enthusiasm about Biden’s win through an Instagram video that features her tearing up while talking about how long she has waited for this election. She said, “that felt like a thousand years,” when mentioning how Trump’s presidency seemed to drag on for more than 4 years.

Reese Witherspoon also congratulated the newest President on Twitter, tweeting, “What a tremendous moment in our nation’s history! Congrats to our new President @JoeBiden and the First Female Vice President in our history @KamalaHarris.” Before the results were announced, Witherspoon tweeted, “That feeling when you hear the Vote counting is going your way!” to demonstrate her excitement that Biden had been in the lead. 

Sophie Turner posted a picture on Instagram of Biden and Harris holding their hands up together after their victory. She captioned the picture with a single heart emoji. Kim Kardashian also posted this photo on Twitter, captioning it with multiple blue hearts.


Finally, Ariana Grande also tweeted about her relief that Biden had won, tweeting, “CRYING @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris THANK GOD.”

Many more celebrities took to social media to share their views on the election. Overall, many are excited about this new chapter in American history and look forward to a future under Joe Biden’s presidency.
